Reed, thanks for your kind offer. I would like to but I will have to take a rain check due to some other commitments I already have on Friday.
And "no", I did not go to Princeton. My last name means tiger in my native lanuage (i.e., Turkish). ;-)
I think even if one VC comes to the meeting then it is a success. I thought the idea of this group is to present your idea, get some feedback from fellow geeks, and hopefully, in the words of southpark, "the Internet makes lots of money. Give us some of that money!"
Also, Dug is very humble and doesn't like to toot his own horn, but there is a good article that should be given a read here:

I'd like to see a StaxUp analysis of the after action comments. ;-) Husnu I owe you lunch. Noon Friday starting from Sweetwater on Washington? Everyone else invited, but I'm only paying for Husnu. ;-) My cell is 415 342 3634. [email protected]. I'll look for a tiger (did you go to Princeton?), you look for sushi.
I have nothing against the venture capital firms. In fact, I appreciate their efforts and services especially in our state. I just find "new technology" presentations more intriguing. :)
4: ...Thus, with respect, and hopefully with this previous relaying of facts far outweighing any claim that I'm being too self serving, complaining too hard about one wonderfully real and another would-be seed venture capital firm taking up Tech Meetup presentation slots is perhaps closer to suggesting how to "rearrange deck chairs on the Titanic." Note that I do not begrudge your comment, because it gets us talking about how WE plug the Titanic's hole for us all to go up on the tide.
3: ...As for Resonant, we should throw a parade for them. Imagine a real and funded dedicated seed stage VC in Michigan! In 2009, MI got 0.4% of CA's fundings ($3M vs. $744M) and 1.6% of its number of deals (2 vs. 124), despite having roughly 25% of CA's population, gross state product, and state and federal R&D money to its academic institutions. MI is also a leader in such inherent factors of inventiveness such as # and per capita % of engineers/scientists, corporate R&D, etc....
2: ...And if there were any accredited investors in the crowd whose venn diagram has an overlap of (1) looking for highest possible returns with the lowest possible risks, (2) wanting portfolio diversification and leveraging the SBIR selection process as an unpredentedly competent way to do at the least technology due diligence, and (3) caring about severly seed stage capital underserved Michigan, then I'd appreciate the chance to talk to you...
Husnu - having investors pitch is actually a first for us, and decided to support their efforts as they're just getting started (trying to raise money themselves).
We need more seed-stage investors in the ecosystem, and to honor our gracious hosts at the b-school, felt it was meaningful that they're both Ross alumni. Our past meetups have featured over 70 startups - this one was really just an anomaly.
I'm in Palo Alto now, reeling at the "AngelGate" drama blowing up here. So different.
“ Great set of speakers for the September meetup. The VC talks were very encouraging. It is great to witness firsthand how the investor environment in this area is evolving and going more early stage, a crucial stage of economic development. This is very important to tech start-ups and a welcome sign of things to come. I'd like to see more presentations along these lines, even beyond investors. Anything that is supporting the tech community growth in the area. Interspersed with the start-ups themselves, of course! Thanks to all that organized this event. ”
“ this was my first meetup and I really enjoyed it. I though the quality of presentations, ideas and questions was great. I've already RSVP to the next few meetings and look forward to early 2011 when I'm ready to present. ”
“ Having been a presenter, my review probably needs to be discounted. But I thought it was a great venue, the other presentations were interesting and possibly actionable, the 5 minute presentation/5 minute Q&A was well structured, the moderator was excellent, and the questions were very good. Thanks for the courtesy of letting me present! ”
“ Great meetup - loved it when the audience was polled to see how many people were involved with IT or software based startups and most everyone raised their hands! So much for tech being dead in MI!! ”
“ Interesting as usual...just the time date and microphones are small problems. I wish start time was 7pm. I was out all day and could barely eat dinner and get there. 3rd Tuesday is a busy time. It is hard to hear questions still ”
“ I felt that there were more content than previous meetups. It's something very positive. I liked the diversity as well, like having a VC pitching/sharing their thoughts. And there were not technical hiccups at all, that's a sign of progress as well. Overall very well organized and executed meetup. Kudos to all who contributed. ”

Interesting to see this discussion being taken 'off-line'. Definitely will try to join you tomorrow to see how the conversation develops.

I was planning on going but the weather forced me to change my allegiance. Thanks Roger, now I can have my cake and eat it too!

As per Oscar Wilde: The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about. ;-)
Husnu, RWO Ventures is a start-up seeking capital and partnership deals just like any other....
